I never knew there was an “alternate ending” to Dr. Strangelove, but found after a quick search that you can read about it on Wikipedia. The pie scene (which sounds amazing, by the way) may have been cut either because it didn’t flow with the rest of the film, or because it included references to the president being “struck down in his prime,” while the film’s first test screening turned out to be the same day as JFK’s assassination.
